My my what a migraine!

Alright busy day ahead.  Get the stuff I didn't get finished done today, go to lunch with mom, do some hair and host Bible study tonight.  Can I get it done?

Addison woke up a bit cranky and wanting me to hold her all morning.  I found that odd even though she is my snugglier.  I got sick last night but also had a rough night with my night eating so didn't think much of it.  Around 8:30 it began the aura.  I couldn't see.  If someone was standing right beside me and asking me how many fingers they were holding up I wouldn't be able to tell them.  I have had this happen a few times before.  My first time was when I worked at the Lighthouse and I thought that someone had slipped something in my Diet Coke.  Turned out to be a migraine.  They start out without any pain and just the vision problems and then they turn into the killer headache.  I have heard people talk about having them and the sound of someone walking across the room in socks is too much for them.  Mine don't hurt that bad but bad for me.  Addison threw up on me around 10 to top this off.  I locked myself in the kids room and lined up some Veggie Tales on the TV.  I laid down on the floor and we all 3 slept for about 2 1/2 hours.  My kids are great nappers.  I woke up to a much more tolerable headache and still have a bit of one now.  Vision is 90% better and I feel more rested.  I just hope that I go to sleep tonight.  I would have to say that this is one of my kids favorite days in a long time.  No chores, we grabbed a Little Ceasers pizza, and rented a Redbox movie.  Mommy was taking the night off.  Hope all is gone by morning.

It's a bird. It's a plane. No it's....

My kids ceiling light fixture!  After a very long and emotional few days of saying goodbye to James' dad mom called and offered to take the younins to the zoo and allow me to get my head cleared out.  I happily accepted the offer and sent them on their way a short 45 minutes later.

James left for work and the house was quiet and all mine.  Oh what to do?  So many things on my do do list.  Speaking of I didn't get all of my stuff done on my Jan. To Do list.  Hmm guess Feb. just got longer.  I decided to head into A & A's room since they were gone and I could get a good cleaning out of it.  The kids have begun emptying their dresser muliple times a day and their room looks like a bomb hit when they go to bed at night and I want to pull my hair out.  I NEED SHELVES!!  High shelves! I start with the closet and say a silent prayer that when I open the closet door I will find another bedroom.  No such luck.  I empty the whole closet out into their room on the floor and proceed to take out the 5 ft tall plastic shelf that was holding blankets.  I lift a little higher than I realize and hit the light on the ceiling and break the glass cover into a million pieces all over their stuff that is scattered all over the floor.  After about 15 minutes of crying in a 8in X 8in block of carpet that didn't have glass I began cleaning up the mess.  I guess I am just going to have to wait for the budget and warm weather to get in their and do a little remodeling.  Wanting to get it set up the best way I can for them and also arrange it so that when we get them twin beds we will have room for them.

A thousand thank yous

Today we laid James Craig Sr. to rest.  It was a very hard and emotional day that ended it receiving my last rose from him off of his coffin.  It doesn't smell as sweet as the ones in his yard but it made me smile and remember. Thank you so much for those of you that have send cards, emails, flowers and visited us at the funeral home.  It is so  appreciated.  We are holding up and will spend many days sharing papaw stories that will bring smiles and tears.  I know that he is in his new body breathing deep breaths and doing things he has only dreamed of.  His legacy will live on in his grandchildren and Anthony will carry on the name Craig with pride.  We will miss you Papaw thank you for all of the memories and laughs.

Things I will miss

-His random comments made in the middle of a conversation that he isn't involved in just because his hearing was so bad and he didn't know anyone else was in the room.  :)  This would usually end in his standard "Hell I don't know" when we said "What?"

-His always exposed butt crack whether he had a belt on or not.  Sometimes I wonder if he didn't walk so slowly due to not getting around well.  I think he was just trying to keep his pants up.

-One time we went camping and I was in the camper bent over getting something out of the cabinets by the door.  I heard the door open and someone smacked me on the butt.  I turned to find Papaw shocked to see my face.  He thought I was Mak and was trying to scare her.  Think he got more scared than she would have when he realized what he did.

-Going to Holiday World and leaving him with the candy for trick or treater.  We walked back by after doing a lap and he yelled at us "We need more candy!". We looked over at our campsite to find Papaw sitting in a lawn chair over top a mound of opened candy wrappers.  We let the diabetic be unattended with a bucket of candy and he thought he was getting away with something while sitting on a pile of evidence.

-Can't believe I am going to say this but I am going to miss him sneaking Victoria and any of the grandkids Little Debbie oatmeal creme pies before coming home from a visit.  The sugar rushes were horrible but now realize that it was a special thing that the grandkids could always depend on from him.  (this also reminds me of my Papaw giving us teaspoons of straight sugar in the kitchen as my mom and dad would be calling in the other room "It's time to go.")

-Golf cart rides around the neighborhood.  Myself and the grandkids.  Never knew cruising around the block at 2mph could be so refreshing.

-His obsession with watching the news.  Every Time I saw him he would start a conversation "What do you think about the..." and I never knew what he was talking about because I wasn't a news watcher.  Once he caught on that I didn't watch it usually was a conversation about the juiciest gossip in the family or neighborhood.

-How much the kids would light up at the sight of him walking through our door.

-Going to the benefit dance for the Cancer Center and them raffling off all of the door prizes.  Papaw sat around the whole time waiting to see if he was going to win anything.  He won a jar full of candy and he was ticked that the diabetic won a jar of candy after all that waiting.  Notice above Halloween story....

-Seeing him in his permanent spot on his recliner in the living room along with his dog.

-How when Victoria would spend the night from time to time I would be surprised by him taking her to his prize rose bushes that he got from his moms so that they could cut me some roses to make me smile.

He was a good man an incredible Grandpa and he will be so missed.  We are so glad that he is no longer suffering and that the words "I don't know I just don't feel good" will never leave his lips again.  We love ya Papaw and we hope your new golf cart has an awesome paint job and a killer stereo system.
-

No more suffering

We lost James dad last night at 7:15.  We were all able to be in the room with him when he passed (excluding the younger kids) and he peacefully went to be with God.  I am unsure of the funeral arrangements at this time.  We are to go to the funeral home today to finalize everything.

I am so thankful that James was able to stay with him and be there for his mom and Makenzie.  Everyone is a mess but we know that his body is healed and that he will never say "I just don't feel good".  I will not think of him without laughing.  He was quite the comedian with the one liners and his dry delivery would put a conversation on hold so we could all get a stomach ache from laughing.  We are going to tell Victoria this morning.  I know that it is going to crush her.  Her Papaw hung the moon and it is really going to take a toll on her after what she has already been through.

I am staying strong and trying to help everyone as much as I can.  Thank you for all of the prayers along the way during his Cancer battle and for every hospital visit he had. He was an incredible Papaw and we will miss him very much.

James dad has been back in the hospital since a few short days after Christmas.  The visiting nurse heard gurgling when he was breathing and that caused enough alarm for them to send his back to Floyd Co. From there he was placed in the Rehab center.  We went to visit him there and I was surprised how good he looked.  His color was good and he was sitting up and having conversations.  While in the Rehab center his lung collapsed.  They rushed him back to Floyd and into ICU.  While there they found that his Cancer was back with full force and attacking his lymph system.  They have him on oxygen and trying to keep him comfortable.

I picked up Makenzie last night to take her to the hospital and then my parents came to watch the kiddos so that I could meet James at his truck and take him up to the room.  I was not expecting what I saw since the last visit.  It is only going to be a matter of short time.  He is non responsive and lifting his head up off of the pillow yelling out for his mom to come and help him out of his chair.  His mom passed many years before James and I met.  He isn't recognizing anyone and that has been very hard especially on Makenzie.  Papaw hung the moon as far as she is concerned and she has always been very close to him.  Please pray for comfort for him in these last days and for everyone to have peace through these final days.  Also if you could please send one up for James himself to get through this and for safe travels as he is on his way home to spend more time with him again.  I worry about him driving his truck being so upset.

Project of the day

Today's project consisted of finishing my dining room window.  I have had a shelf that I got at Goodwill for $1.00 for a few weeks.  It is just a basic shelf with an outdated country heart cut out in the middle.  It just happened to fit perfectly over my window.  I am proud to say that I hung it myself and made the valance with my Hobby Lobby fabric.  I learned something today as much as I like the ruffles (especially hiding that heart) I hate sewing ruffles.  My sewing machine and I didn't get a long too well today and I ended up sewing on the polka dot ruffle and pinning on the flower one.  So if you come over and check this out be care don't' get poked.  The pics look familiar from the previous post and you can see the change of paper in the one silverware frame.  Like the green damask much better!  The bottle that used to sit in my sink window are now housed on this shelf along with my soup can vase creation and something that I am very fond of, my picture holders.  These come with a story.  My mamaw (dad's mom) loved to quilt.  When I was little I remember many things about my Mamaw but one thing I especially remember was playing with her big box of wooden spools.  When she passed and my grandpa sold the farm I only wanted to get those spools but ended up falling in love with some other things as well when we went to clean out the house.  I grabbed some of my beading wire (remember from the earring holder) and threaded it through the hole in the middle spiraled it around and placed my pics in the spiral.  The photo on the left is me and my Mamaw when I was 2 months old in the kitchen of our old house.  The one on the right is me when I was a kid making Christmas cookies in that same kitchen.  Pardon that dumb wire from my hanging lamp.  Still can't figure out how to hide that stupid thing.  Still would like to get a little chandelier for the dining room table.

Blogaholic!

I am totally hooked on home decor blogs.  I could go on and on about Nester, Better After, Thrifty Decor Chick,Crazy Domestic.  I am just 100% hooked.  I get a bit done on my list for Jan and then I go to my computer and I am there for what seems like forever but time gets away from me.  One thing I like about the kids being older and having twins they are in a stage where they get into their fair share of fights but all in all love playing together and I can read my blog with the sound of laughter over my shoulder.  Here are some things that were inspired by my time at the computer.  I had a ball!

Mom brought me over these basic square vases to use and I instantly saw a blank canvas. So with some tissue paper and some Mod Podge I turn them into this for about $7 for two of them.

This clock I found at Goodwill for less than $4.  I forgot to get a before pic. But it was basically the bare wood that you see on the sides but I covered the face with the scrapbook paper that inspired the room. Well I guess I should say inspiring the room.
Here is a fun idea I totally stole from one of the blogs I now follow.  Mom brought these over with the vases.  I have been looking for cheap 12X12 frames to put my scrapbook paper in for the walls but can't find any.  So mom brought these over.  I believe she got these at a Family Dollar or something.  ...

Here is what they looked like before.  After some scrapbook paper, some acrylic paint, and some old silverware TA-DA!
Here is another one.  I ended up changing the background paper.  Didn't jive well with me as much as the blue and green.  I changed it to a nice green damask on white paper with the same yellow frame and silverware. Total investment about $0.00.  I already had this stuff laying around and mom gave me the framed art.
Oh I love these!  This is one of my favorites.  I grabbed a frame I already had painted it black and the grabbed some beading wire at Walmart and in about 10 minutes had this modern looking earring holder that doubles as wall art.  How cool is that right?  The only thing that I had to buy was the beading wire and that cost under $3!
Ah yes remember me talking about garbage day?  Well this is the door that I snagged out of the trash down the street.  Here is the before and I am working on the after.  I have the chalkboard paint already on it just need to get the rest of the hardware off and paint the frame.  I picked a cute red from the Martha Stewart collection at Home Depot.  Did you know that they will custom mix a color for you as a sample?  They may have done this for a long time but I am super jazzed about it.  How many times do you want to do a small project and won't need a whole pint of paint?  Will be making more trips to Home Depot.
Taping it off for the Chalkboard paint.  So easy to work with. I am thinking about doing the wall that separates the living area and the kitchen so that the kids can draw on it.
Another Mod Podge creation.  I wrapped this in fabric that I used in my kitchen and I use it to hold my stir sticks for my coffee.
My very first window "mistreatment".  A term that The Nester coined.  It is a window treatment that is a no sew or little sew and takes no longer than 15 minutes.  This is all pinned up on my window and there isn't one stitch sewn on it.  Just one yard of fabric with the raw edges tucked in and two yards of polka dotted ribbon.  And yes the sign above says " I have a kitchen because it came with the house. "
Next project is my towel rack for the sink.  Just a piece of wood I grabbed from my parents basement and some old forks= FREE!  I ended up just hot gluing it to the cabinet.  Window treatment for about $6!  Window candles Goodwill $1 for all 4 and the cute little bottles were 13 bucks at Hancocks marked down to $1.30 each!  I even used some of the left over fabric and rehung the little plaques with it.  You can see one to the left.
This was a board similar to this and just recovered it.  I do have to let you know that I used staples that were too long while doing this project and ended up stapling this project the the kitchen counter. I had to do some pulling and tugging to get it off.  It was quite comical.
This is a new one that I gave for a Christmas present.  I am loving the wreaths that I am seeing out there.  This one is just a Styrofoam wreath wrapped in yarn and then I cut, sewed and glued these handmade flowers on it.  It turned out super cute!
A close up of the flower.

Well there ya have it these are my latest creations.  Now I need to quit blogging myself so that I can see if there are any new posts on Design Sponge.  lol!

Bored?

This is pretty much the attitude of the house today with it being snow day #2.  My creative ideas are tapped out and I am ready to climb the walls.

I have to share this pic.  I got to see my buddy Leslie for the first time since her wedding this past Monday.  Man I have missed our Leslie Mondays!  She has joined the bible study I have been attending.  We just started a new book called Made to be his Help Meet.  This one is going to kick me square in my bootie, and I need it :).  Looking forward to what God is trying to teach me and is going to show me.

Snow Play

\
Laying back for her first snow angel.

"Merry Christmas! I am Santa Claus!"  Watch that snow fly!

Anthony's snow angel.

 Anthony's log roll..
Victoria had finally got her gloves on and joined in on the fun.
Tasting the snow.  He was later found licking the driveway.  That is what I get for taking a second to clean off the car.
Love this shot! They had a ball.  You can't even see that I put sandwich bags on Anthony's feet so that they don't get wet in his Toy Story shoes.  Mom's got to do what a mom's got to do!

A date with my little people

I had such a nice day today and the fact that my house is a mess isn't bothering me in one way shape or form.  After the girls were dropped off at school I came home and looked at the dishes I usually tend to shortly after my coffee kicks in and the ever growing mound of laundry.  I then turned to A & A and said "You want to go bye bye?"  We threw on some clothes and went out into the world to see what was going on.  We headed to Target and the smell of popcorn (even at 9am) was too much for us to bear.  We headed over to the counter and grabbed a bag and some small drinks and we took in the store and all of the goodies marked on clearance.  Got to love Jan. for that one right?

We wandered around and I found some stuff for the "store" that I will open for the first time tonight where the kids can spend their "money" that they have been given through the week.  They were so pumped!!!  I also grabbed a couple of super cute and really cheap sleeping bags for the twins to take to grandma's when they stay.  Mom is still putting them in the pack and play and let's face it they are a bit too old for them.  She laughed when she had Anthony she said his feet and head were touching the sides as he laid down.  I hit the jackpot in the toy department and found a wooden train set that was 40+ marked down to $10!!!  There are 127 pieces and Anthony adores the one at church.  I am going to take that to grandma's as well.  Mom has a very special place in her heart for trains.

After Target I braved Chic-fil-A alone with the kids.  They were AMAZING with two capital A's!  ;)  They were putting on a show and being so friendly to people sitting next to us.  They got balloons and Addison was asking the sweet lady that comes to give refills what her name was and kept saying "Shirley!" so that she could wave to her.  So incredibly sweet!  Anthony made a friend with the kid that was sitting next to us.  His name was Dylan (Addison asked) and he joined us in the play area.  The kids did great and I got very little resistance from them when I said it was time to go.

Home Depot was calling my name.  The hutch door that I picked up on Tuesday is going to get a coat of Martha Stewart red paint and the smooth side of the glass is getting some chalkboard paint.  I am super excited to do this project.  I have been wanting to try out the chalkboard paint for quite some time now and wanted to start small.  Thinking of maybe doing the kids doors so that they can get the drawing on the walls phase over with and do it in a way that doesnt' get them in trouble.  Or maybe I am starting trouble by saying "Watch mommy draw on the door."  I am already second guessing myself.  BTW the man that mixed our sample, his name was Tony (Addison asked).

From there we headed home and after dinner we opened up shop.  I really should have taken a pic of the kids sitting at the table with their money waiting to see the goods.  They did very well and I have to say that I was impressed with how Anthony saw the price and handed me the correct amount.  Victoria scored with a Littlest Pet Shop sheep and a new pair of socks. Addison chose the the gel window clings along with a LPS caterpillar that is adorable!  (Target toy dept. clearance from $7 to $2.48) and Anthony got a LPS fish that he has held since it was opened.  But in the other hand he has his two new Hot Wheels.  The kids paid their money and Anthony and Addison decided to save some for next week.  The kids spent the rest of the night playing with their new toys.

Bed time arrived too early for them as they were having a ball and not ready to end the fun.  I let the twins sleep in their sleeping bags.  I opened up the cute little backpack they came in and they looked with wide eyes saying their oohs and aahs.  Then they said "What are those?"  I gave them the sleeping bag run down and they are hooked!  Addison looked up with her full face smile and said "Thanks for letting us sleep in the suitcases mommy."  "Not a problem honey.  Not a problem at all."  The house is quiet all three of my little ones are tucked in with their new toys in bed with them.  Goal of establishing reward money is accomplished.  It was such a success with all three that I don't believe they would let me stop if I tried.  Glad to see that they enjoy it as much as I do.

Semi grave yard.

After dropping off Victoria at the bus stop and Makenzie at school Anthony and Addison were looking out the window and saw a car hauler drive by.  For those of you not married to a truck driver this is a car hauler...

Anthony looks out the window and says "CARS!"  Addison takes a sip of her juice and says "Aww those cars are dead."

I have a confession..

I love Wednesday mornings!  Why? It is garbage pick up day and I love to take things that someone else thinks is "trash" and make it useful.  I could have hit the jackpot this morning with a shelving unit in the corner of my neighborhood.  Nothing wrong with it at all!  It was large about 5X5 and broken up into 1 foot squares of shelves.  I was heartbroken.  I could make this laminate garbage be adorable with a simple coat of white paint and loads of toys in my little ones' room.  Standing in front of it were some cabinet doors.  Glass middles and that horribly ugly decorative glass at that!  I snagged one because I am going to try to get that glass out and turn it into a chalkboard.  "Someone" has me hooked on The Nester (not mentioning any names Jill Pennington) and she has an adorable chalkboard in her living room over her couch and I have wanted one ever since I saw it.   Here I sit in my living room with the sound of Cat in the Hat behind me and I hear the Garbage truck.  I will try to keep the tears from falling as I hear the crunch of the shelf down the street. Wait it just hit me that the door were to the shelf.  It was a hutch!  Even better!  Oh this is a case for a new family vehicle.  We need a full size van!  lol!

Hello 2011!

I welcome you! The ultimate "Do over".  I have set some goals for January.  I figure if I share them with the world I will hold myself more accountable for completing them.  They are....

1.  Finish the headboard for our bedroom. I have been looking at some really cute headboards made out of doors.  I was given a door from church that was left over from the new set that Large Group is doing.  I am going to paint it black and I believe do a little something special with some hand painted words.  Maybe 2 Cor.?  Will post pics when it is completed.

2.  Establish some merit money in the home for the kids.  See if this helps with good behavior and help me to focus on the good things my children do instead of the negative.

3.  Dish towels.  Saw some really cute ideas for personalizing dish towels for the kitchen with some sewn ruffles and such.  Quick project to help finish the kitchen.  Got a bunch of left over material from the curtains.  Maybe some placemats as well?  Well see how motivated I am once this project is finished.

4.  Sew some pillows for our bed.  I have started making some felt flowers that I have attached to wreaths and going to use this idea to make some pillows.  Haven't settled on a design yet put will post pics when this project is completed.

5.  Date with my husband.  I haven't had one in quite some time.  He and I both need some time together to reconnect.  We have found ourselves in the parent trap of only having the kids to talk about and not much else.  Want to fall in love again with my husband.

6.  Finish the cabinet doors in the kitchen.  I have taken out the horrible glass mirrors in the doors over the counter that leads into the living room. I have the living room side completed but want to finish the kitchen side with the adorable polka dot material that I have left over.

7.  Dining room window.  Need to hang a shelf I found at Goodwill for a buck over window and finish window treatments for this window as well.  I have tried a couple of ideas but not found one that I LOVE so that search continues...

There ya have it folks along with some potty training boot camp for Anthony.  Today with the start of school again we went straight to underwear with him.  I told him that the diaper bandit came and took all of the diapers in the house and he has to "man up" and use to potty from now on. So far at 12 we have had two successful attempts and two accidents.  Biggest part is my mindset of "We WILL get this accomplished!  That is the hardest part of potty training. I thought I would have it during Christmas break but with parties and the thought of relaxation it just got put on the back burner.  Well see how this goes...
